DESCRIPTION:Purple Heart Ceremony\nVeterans Memorial Park\, Tampa\nSunday\, August 7\, 2016\n\n\n\nThe Veterans Memorial Park Committee has honored the Patriot Guard Riders with a request to stand a flag line during a brief Purple Heart Ceremony on Saturday\, August 07.  We will present this flag line as our community honors service men and women who bravely and selflessly served our country.  The Purple Heart\, originally called the Badge of Military Merit\, was first awarded by General George Washington on August 7\, 1782.  August 7 is now celebrated as Purple Heart Day. \nMultiple Purple Heart Recipient Gerard Abbett and Vietnam Veteran Dave Braun will lead this ceremony and raise the Purple Heart flag.  A Proclamation from Governor Scott will be read.  Other details have not been released at this time.  The public is welcome and encouraged to attend\, as Purple Heart Ceremonies will be conducted throughout the country.
