The 449th Bomb Group conducted 254 missions in central and eastern Europe between January 8, 1943 and April 26, 1945. During this time the 449th lost 135 aircraft, had 393 crew members killed in action, 359 crew members were shot down and captured (POW), and 186 crew members were shot down but evaded capture until they reached friendly territory. The survivors are currently celebrating their reunion in New Orleans. The PGR has been given the privilege of welcoming these heroes to the WWII Museum this Saturday at 5:45 PM.
