Lloyd Otley Smith, Sr. , USN, Korea, Canton, GA, Monday, 1 AUG 16

The family of U.S. Navy veteran Lloyd Otley Smith, Sr. has requested the Patriot Guard Riders escort their HERO to his final place of rest at the Georgia National Cemetery, Canton, GA, and stand a silent flag line providing honor and respect during his interment service. It will be our honor to do so.

Lloyd Smith served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He entered active duty October 1952 and served until his honorable discharge August 1956.
He was awarded the Navy Occupation Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. In civilian life, Mr. Smith retired as a chemist from the Canton Textiles Mills. He is survived by his wife, three sons, and two grandchildren.

The family has requested that we provide a LEO assisted escort from the Sosebee Funeral Home, 191 Jarvis Street, Canton, GA 30114 to the Georgia National Cemetery, Canton, GA.

We will stage at Sosebee Funeral Home NLT 12:45 PM. Service at the Funeral Home is scheduled for 12:30 so when arriving please be respectful and try to be as quiet as possible. There will not be a flag line at the funeral home. We will line up for the escort to GNC and approximately 1:20 PM, depart with LEO escort to GNC stopping at the PIC building and then moving to the assigned shelter. The interment service at GNC is scheduled for 2:30 PM.

Military honors will be provided by the U.S. Navy Honors Team. Reuben “Tailgunner” Baumgardner has once again stepped forward to provide flag wagon services.

If going direct to Georgia National Cemetery please arrive there NLT 1:45 PM at the PIC building where we will stage then move to the assigned shelter.

The current weather forecast for Monday is high temperatures in low 90’s with 40% of rain. Please plan accordingly and remember to HYDRATE.
