Obituary: Herschel was a long time Friendswood resident and passed away on June 26, 2016. Herschel graduated from Pascal High School in Fort Worth, TX and he attended one year of college until Pearl Harbor was attacked on December 7, 1941. Herschel was too young to enlist and his parents gave permission for him to enlist in the United States Army Air Corps. Herschel became a pilot and flew B17’s on approximately ten missions in the European Theater. On one mission his B17 was attacked and damaged by a Messerschmidt Me 262 jet fighter.
After WWII, Herschel attended Texas Christian University and graduated in 1948 with a BS in Geology. Herschel spent his career in oil and gas exploration.
Herschel was an avid pilot, remained in the Air Force Reserve until the 1960’s, and flew as often as possible. He enjoyed building and flying model aircraft, ham radio operation and photography.
Herschel was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and a daughter. He is survived by two sons, and four grandchildren.
