SUMMARY:Herdis W. McCrary\, 85\, USMC
DESCRIPTION:Confirmed Mission\nHerdis W. McCrary\nUS Marine Corps – Korea \nGreen Bay\, WI\nFriday August 5\, 2016\n\n\nHerdis W. McCrary left us this week at the too young age of 85. I am often given an opportunity to hear the stories of our heroes\, but in searching for a little more\, I happened upon the obituary Herdis wrote for his wife just 3 years ago and it was “The Notebook” story in real life. They met when he was in 9th grade and she in 8th. He felt it his duty to serve the country and enlisted in the Marine Corps\, served in Korea\, received two Purple Hearts and came home to his girl. When he returned from Korea\, they eloped and began their “Clan”. He refers to his wife as the woman he adored for 67 years. You seldom know someone after they’re gone except perhaps by attending a mission and looking at a life already gone. Sometimes you get more. \nI’m honored that this evening I got to know Herdis and his family. While not officially The Greatest Generation\, it is men like him that made this country what it is. His family has graciously invited us to join them as they celebrate the life of a loving father and friend. \nNote: We have two concurrent missions at this funeral home. Please arrive early to stage and prepare for serving two special families. \nVisitation\nFriday August 5\, 2016\n3:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. \nBlaney Funeral Home\n1521 Shawano Ave.\nGreen Bay\, WI 54303 \nStaging\n2:30 p.m. \nMemorial Service follows\n6:30 p.m. \nBurial at a later date.\n[h=2]Ride Captain is Mike Weaver skipatroldoc@gmail.com[/h]
