Flipper\, Thomasville\, Ga 17 March 2017 \nUS Army Lt. Henry O. Flipper (1856-1940) a former slave was the first African-American Graduate of the U. S. Military Academy at West Point and received his Commission in 1877. Lt. Flipper also had the distinction of being the first African-American Officer to lead Troops in the US Army\, “Buffalo Soldiers” from the Tenth Cavalry during several Indian Campaigns.\nIn 2015 the West Point Society of Tallahassee (WPST) noted an incorrect listing on his Grave Stone. His Marker has been corrected\, replaced and his Burial Site along with those of his Parents has been restored.\nThe City of Thomasville and WPST will proudly Honor Lt. Flipper’s Legacy\, Commemorating his Life with the replacement of his Gravestone and restoration of his family’s graves on 17 March 2017. The City of Thomasville and WPST have requested that the Patriot Guard Riders stand a Flag Line in Lt. Flipper’s Honor for the Proceedings. I was proud to accept in the Patriot Guards Riders behalf.\nThomasville\, Ga. Native\, Thomasville High School Graduate 1971\, West Point Academy Graduate 1975\, General Lloyd James Austin III\, US Army (Ret.) will be the Keynote Speaker.\nThe Commemorative Proceeding will take place in Flipper Cemetery\, 700 W. Madison Street\, Thomasville\, Ga.\, named in Lt. Flipper’s Honor.
