ABOUT THE MISSION:
Captain Harold Ernest Burgess Jr. enlisted in the United States Navy in October 1949 and retired in May 1979. Through his long and distinguished career, Harold earned a Bachelor’s and a Master’s Degree and commanded the USS Hitchiti, the USS Buck and the USS Kirk naval vessels. He also received many awards, including the Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Navy Commendation Medal, the Staff Medal First Class by the Republic of Vietnam Armed Forces General Staff and the Vietnam Service Medal with four stars. Following retirement, Harold taught Naval ROTC at Johnson Central High School in Paintsville, KY until his retirement in 1988. He will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery on Monday October 26, 2020. Captain Burgess stood for us, now it is our honor to stand for him.
