Gold Star Family Dinner Comment

  1. After Mission Report – 9 May 2019 – HOTH Mission, Gold Star Dinner, Tulsa, OK

The PGR gathered at Legend at Tulsa Hills Assisted Living Facility to greet 23 Gold Star families for a dinner in their honor. Flags were staked at the entrances to the facility and we held a short briefing to review mission details. A red carpet was rolled out and PGR stood alongside it to greet our Gold Star families and present roses to each family. We were told this was the largest gathering of area Gold Star families in some time.

While waiting on the guests, we were visited by resident Sergeant Paul J. Andert, USA. A 98-year-old veteran of World War II, author of Unless You Have Been There, he recounted several stories of his service under General George Patton from Africa to Normandy and throughout the European theatre. A 19-year old Platoon Sergeant at the time overseeing 48 men, we were in awe of his sharp memory as he recounted detail of his involvement in several battles.

When all of the Gold Star families had arrived, we were asked to join them, introduce ourselves and have dinner. Following the meal, the flags were gathered and stored for the next mission.

Thanks to all the veterans that reside at Legend of Tulsa Hills as it was their request to honor our Gold Star families at the facility. Thank you for inviting PGR to join this event. Mostly, thank you to all of our Gold Star families as we wish you all of God’s love to help temper the pain of having lost your loved one in service to our great country.

    Sincerely,
    Dan “Big D” Koehling
