The Patriot Guard has been requested by the family of Gilbert Allen to provide an escort in honor of his service to this Great Nation.
Gilbert “Gib” proudly served with the US Army during the Korean War. He served in the 7th Cavalry Regiment during the war. He was awarded the Korean Service Medal with three bronze campaign stars, two Bronze Stars with oak leaf cluster for valor, and the Purple Heart with two oak leaf clusters. On November 10, 1951, near San’ gol, Korea he received one of the Bronze Stars and the two Purple Hearts for his heroism in action against an armed enemy. Sergeant Allen’s patrol was ambushed. Without regard for his personal safety, he circulated among his wounded comrades, fearlessly exposing himself in order to administer first aid to the wounded. He was exposed to an intense volume of automatic weapons fire, grenades, and small arms fire. in addition, Sergeant Allen emerged carrying a wounded comrade in spite of his own wounds. He undoubtedly saved the lives of many casualties. His heroism reflected great credit on himself and the military service. He was Grand Marshall of the Quincy Veteran’s Day Parade in 2013.
