George Hernandez was born on 9 July 1946 in Phoenix, Arizona and was one of four children.
At the age of 19, George joined to United States Army. His service time spanned from 1965 to 1967. PFC Hernandez was a Door Gunner during the Vietnam war. His service medals included the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze stars, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device 1960 and 2 OS Bars, and Air Medal with 6 Oak Leaf Clusters.
Upon returning home, PFC Hernandez joined the Army National Guard and served with pride in this capacity too.
PFC Hernandez worked as a volunteer at the VA for many years helping his fellow service men.
PFC Hernandez married the love of his life Roberta and resided in Tucson. His family said he was a jokester, easy going, simple man with a good heart.
PFC Hernandez passed on 11 August 2016. He will be missed by many.
