  2. Mission Complete: 4 March 2019-SSG George C Baker-US Army, OKANG, LEO, PGR, Chickasha and Ft Sill, OK.

The apex of cold weather in Central Oklahoma decided to choose this day to make itself felt, with single digit temperatures and double-digit negative wind chill numbers to start the day. It was decided early on by the RCIC, that in the interest of safety for all members, cage use was strongly recommended. Fourteen members, including one new member who had served with our Hero and friend, and one member and his wife who had driven from Omaha NE., showed up in vehicles to support this Operation Desert Storm/Global War on Terror Veteran and Hero, and his family, at the Ferguson Funeral Home in Chickasha. After introductions and flag staging, a briefing was held, and the PGR members stood a Flag Line, which included the US, USA, and PGR flags, at the entrance to the church as the family and mourners arrived.

When the services ended, the members stood a Respect Line as our Hero was loaded into the coach. Members decided to carpool to FSNC so it was a caravan of 6 PGR vehicles, with 3 trucks flying flags to lead and follow, that escorted our Hero and friend, and his family members, to the burial site in Ft Sill, OK.

Upon arriving at the FSNC we were joined by two more PGR members from the SW region, and one from the Central region, in two service vehicles. Once the procession arrived at the service pavilion the members manned a second Respect Line as the Hero was moved to the pavilion by the pallbearers. Finally, the members manned another Respect Line at the side of the pavilion while a short service was conducted, and the US Army Honor Guard provided military honors. PGR members then presented the PGR plaque and Invocation to the surviving children of our Hero, offered our appreciation at being invited to attend the service, and then quietly dismissed until the next time we are needed.

Thanks go out to all who attended. It is a bittersweet duty to stand the Flag Line for an American Hero; even tougher when that man was a friend and one of our own.

Most importantly, our condolences go out to the family and our sincerest thanks go out to SSG George C. Baker for his service to our country.

    Respectfully
    RC Paul”PK”Konrath
