The family of Gaston N. Connell, Jr. has requested the presence of the Patriot Guard Riders for services and military honors. It will be our honor to participate.
Gaston Connell, a member of the greatest generation, served in the United States Army from 1941 to 1946. Gaston enlisted in the US Army the day after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. He first served in North Africa, Naples, Rome, and then landed on the beaches of Southern France. Gaston was a member of the 509th Parachute Infantry and saw combat at the Battle of the Bulge. He was later transferred to the 101st Airborne and served as part of General Eisenhower’s honor guard.
While in the service of his country Gaston received the Distinguished Unit Badge, Combat Infantryman Badge, E.A.M.E. (European, African, Middle East) Theater Ribbon with 5 Bronze Service Stars, American Theater Ribbon and World War II Victory Medal. Gaston was honorably discharged on February 14, 1946 with the rank of Captain. He later served in the Arizona National Guard and retired from the military in 1964 with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
