ABOUT THE MISSION:
Ladies and Gentlemen of the Patriot Guard Riders, we have been invited to stand for Galen Wisdom, age 70. In 1969 he was drafted into the US Army and spent one tour of duty in Vietnam on tug boats and experienced combat first hand. After returning stateside, Galen made a career out of the Army and served a total of 20 1/2 years. He retired in August of 1989 at the rank of SSgt (E6). During his time in the Army, he served as a maintenance platoon sergeant for a heavy truck company, and a supply sergeant. He earned the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal w/1 bronze service star, the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross w/Palm Unit Citation, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Overseas Service Ribbon w/number 2, the Good Conduct Medal 6th award, an Army Service Ribbon, and the NCO Professional Development ribbon w/number 3. While living in Central Oregon Galen was once again drawn to serving the public. He worked for the Jefferson County Sheriff’s office as a marine deputy and corrections officer, the Madras Police Department as a reserve officer, and was assistance chief of the Culver volunteer fire department. He was also an active member in the Redmond VFW, the VFW Military Order of the Cooties, the American Legion, the American Legion Riders, and a member of the Odd Fellows. Please join us as we pay our respects and honor his service to our nation.
