AFTER ACTION REPORT: SSG Fred Marchant, US Army WWII Veteran, Sapulpa, OK
Tuesday, 06 August 2019 was a hot, humid and sunny Oklahoma day. The PGR staged and briefed at the Green Hill Cemetery Mausoleum. Today we were honoring a WWII Veteran by performing Military Honors and assist with placing him with his wife in the mausoleum. This gentleman stormed the Normandy Beach with the second wave and fought his way across Europe. Flags had been posted across the front of the mausoleum. SSG Marchant was moved from the funeral home to the area where he was going to be interred. When his family arrived they were greeted and advised on the presentation of Military Honors. The PGR surrounded the family, Taps were played, the flag was folded and presented to SSG Marchant’s daughter. The PGR plaque and Invocation Letter were read and also presented to the daughter. A Final Salute was given and participated in by all in attendance. SSG Fred Marchant was then placed in the mausoleum with his wife. After many hugs and kind words the flags were retrieved and prepared for the next mission. The PGR was then dismissed.
NOTE: SSG Fred Marchant was interred with a small bag of sand from Normandy Beach that he had retained though out his life.
Thank you to the Marchant family for inviting the PGR to Honor this WWII Hero. Thank you to the many PGR riders (most riders this was their second mission of the day) that took time out of their day to “Stand and Honor” this Hero.
“Rest in Peace” SSG Fred Marchant, US Army WWII Veteran, your mission is complete, you are gone, but your service to this Great Nation will never be forgotten.
Respectfully submitted:
Mike “Penni” Pennington
