HOTH Mission
Flag Raising Ceremony
Clovis, New Mexico – 07-04-20

ABOUT THE MISSION:

Most of us in New Mexico and West Texas have stopped by Allsup’s to fill our vehicle, get a snack or enjoy one of their world-famous bean burritos.  Lonnie Allsup proudly served his country for four years in the United States and Japan during the Korean War.  Upon his discharge, Lonnie and his wife Barbara opened their first store in Roswell, NM. and called it Lonnie’s Drive-In Grocery.  They later sold this store to 7-11 and began their journey expanding from one store to 318 Allsup’s Convenience Stores, with their headquarters in Clovis, NM.  Sadly, Lonnie passed 31 Jan 2018.  Barbara wanted to do something special to honor her husband along with all active duty military and veterans so she erected a gigantic flag pole with a beautiful setting at Allsup’s headquarters building.  Unveiling a bronze plaque and a flag raising ceremony has been postponed a couple times due to the covid-19 crisis the world has been in; however, the time has come and we will raise our American Flag on 4 July 2020.  Several motorcycle groups, including the American Legion Riders, Harley Owners Group, Green Nights from Cannon AFB and the PGR of NM will escort the flag from AL Post 25 to Allsup’s headquarters, where a local boy scout troop will have the honor of raising the flag for the first time.
