Following an outstanding ROTC cadet career at Clemson University Ed was commissioned into the U.S. Army in 1970 and in 1971 served in Vietnam in the 23rd Infantry ‘Americal’ Division as a 1st Lieutenant. Ed served as a role model for youth in the community for more than 20 years as a Cub Scout Den Leader, Assistant Scoutmaster and eventually Scoutmaster in Kingsport, Tn.
