Edward Robert Herbert, III , Retired

ABOUT THE MISSION:
The family of LtCol. Edward R. Herbert, III has requested the Patriot Guard Riders to stand for their hero as he stood for us. LtCol. Herbert passed away on October 24, 2020. He was born in Camden, NJ, on  April 2,1955. He served in the US Air Force National Guard for over 35 years.  He started in fire protection as an enlisted man and achieved the rank of LtCol. as an Airlift Navigator.  He served with the 135th Civil Engineering Flight at Glenn L. Martin State Airport, Baltimore, MD.  He received numerous  awards throughout his career:  National Defense Service Medal;  Air Force Longevity Service Award with 4 devices; Humanitarian Service Medal with  1 device;  Combat Readiness Medal with 1 device; Meritorious Service Medal with 1 device;  Armed Forces Reserve Medal with 1 device and Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with 1 device. LtCol. Herbert will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery with full Military Honors at a later date.

Special Instructions:

This will be a two part Mission .After the briefing we will establish a flag line and hold it during visitation for friends and family. Visitation is scheduled 6 to 8 PM. If the sun sets before 8PM we will stand down the flag line at Sunset.

Large Bike Flags will NOT be needed.
Water will be provided.

Special Instructions:

After the briefing we will establish a flag line and hold it until the service starts, at which time we will stand down. The family has requested that PGR fold the Flag and to play Taps. We will provide this request at the completion of the service.  Those who are not involved in the flag folding and taps can depart  the area when the service begins. Special Instructions for PGR missions during the COVID-19 virus, we will abide by all rules and regulations set by the CDC and the State of South Carolina Department of Veterans’ Affairs.Each attendee is responsible to bring a personnel face-covering. It does not have to be an actual mask, any sort of covering will be sufficient, as we will be setting an example that “We are observing all CDC recommendations regarding COVID-19”. In keeping with the requirements of the State of South Carolina Department of Veterans’ Affairs, PGR members will maintain at least six-foot distance between each other during the briefing and flag line. We are also instructed to be no closer than fifteen feet from the family.
