DESCRIPTION:Honor Mission\nDerek Gregory Garcia\, Veteran\nUSA – WoT\nPortales\, New Mexico – 08-03-19\n\n\n\nABOUT THE MISSION: \nThe Patriot Guard Riders of Eastern NM along with members from HPHD HOG will stand tall and silent for a fallen hero who proudly served his country. He stood for us; now it’s our turn to stand our flag line to honor him and his family. Derek was a 2014 graduate of Dora High School. He was a very patriotic young man. Derek was the district\, regional and State of New Mexico winner of the VFW Voice of Democracy in 2013. He also won a writing contest for the Daughters of the American Revolution. Upon graduation from high school\, Derek followed his patriotic desire and enlisted in the US Army. He was a Paratrooper SPC\, and was honorably discharged in Nov. of 2018. Derek served in the 502nd Infantry Regiment 173rd Airborne Division in Vecenza\, Italy. He participated in numerous missions while stationed overseas\, including Operation Enduring Freedom in the Ukraine. He had 38 career jumps as a paratrooper. He was a member of the 82nd Airborne Division at Ft. Bragg\, NC.
