US Army, E4
Vietnam Veteran – PGR member
Columbia, SC
20 JUN 16
Davis was not a hero in the ‘famous people’ definition of the word. He was not someone the world would mourn as a whole. But they should, because Davis was a hero to all of us who knew him. He was the quiet kind of person that went through life doing things for other people without making a show of it.
Davis was diagnosed with a terminal disease. He left us on Tuesday afternoon.
He joined the Army in 1963 and stayed until 1969. He was proud to have served in the 101st Airborne. He went to Vietnam in 1965 where he was wounded in action.
Among his military awards were: Purple Heart, Vietnam Service Medal, Parachute Badge, Combat Infantryman Badge, Expert Rifleman, and National Defense Service Medal.
Davis was a long time member of the Patriot Guard Riders. He took me to my first mission in 2006. He was also the ‘founding father’ and first Riders Director of the American Legion Riders at Post 6 in Columbia.
Davis and Mary were married for 38 years. She has honored the PGR by inviting us to stand for him and to escort him to his final resting place. We will be proud to do so.
