LTC David Gibson Schofield, Retired

The family of LTC (ret) David Gibson Schofield has requested the PGR stand in honor for their loved one. Mr. Schofield was born in Newton MA on June 22, 1933 and passed away on March 22, 2019 in Hilton Head Island SC. He graduated from The Citadel in 1956 and was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant. He later graduated from the Army Infantry, Armor, Airborne and Ranger schools as well as the Army Command and General Staff College. He was a recipient of three Bronze Stars, the Air Medal, two Meritorious Service Medals, two Joint Service Commendation Medals, and his most cherished award – a Combat Infantry Badge presented to him by his senior Sergeant following ground action in Ashau Valley in Vietnam. After retiring from the Army in 1976, Mr. Schofield went to work for the Nuclear Surveillance and Auditing Corp (NUSAC) in Reston VA for 14 years after which he formed his own company, Safeguard Applications International, where he provided security consulting services to the Department of Energy and the National Laboratories until his retirement in 2000. He was predeceased by one brother and is survived by his wife, three sons, a daughter, six grandchildren and two brothers and his wife’s two daughters and six grandchildren. Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a date to be determined.
