Christine Hayward, wife of Sgt. David B. Hayward, has requested a flag line to honor her husband at his interment on Friday, August 8, 2014.
David served in the Air Force for 17 years, was a volunteer with the American Legion, VFW and the RI Patriot Guard Riders.
David was a Brother to us and was at many missions as we honored our Heroes at interments, Echo Taps, Wreaths Across America, Korean War Cease Fire and photographed so many beautiful PGR moments over the years. If you ever needed to locate him, all you had to do was look for the guy with the pure white beard and ponytail and the big smile. David seemed quiet to a lot of us, but once you got talking to him, the truly crazy sense of humor came out.
He’s with The Old One now and I can imagine the ruckus the two of them are causing UPSTAIRS. Between Frank and his Ginger brandy and David crankin’ his Zappa, the two of them are setting the bar for the rest of us when we go. You are already missed, my friend.
There will be a short ceremony at the Columbarium 11am on Friday, August 8 at the RI Veterans Cemetery in Exeter. Afterwards, Christine has invited members to attend a light brunch at Greggs Restaurant in NK.
