ABOUT THE MISSION:
Honor and Remember – South Carolina Chapter will present a personalized Honor and Remember Flag to the family of Sergeant First Class Darryl James Brake, United States Army, who died while on Active Duty June 16, 2019. His family welcomes the Patriot Guard Riders to stand in honor of their loved one during this flag presentation ceremony.SFC Darryl James “DJ” Brake served in the Unites States Army for 12 years with tours in both Iraq and Afghanistan. During his service, he became a Ranger Instructor and also served in the 82nd Airborne and 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard).His mother shares, “DJ loved his family so much. He was determined to not let his niece down when she chose him to go into the Chuck E Cheese ticket blaster for her birthday. This 82nd Airborne, Ranger, tours in both Afghanistan and Iraq man spent time studying YouTube videos of how to get the most tickets while in the blaster. His technique worked and we have the best memories of that day.”At the time of his death, SFC Brake left behind a fiancé and two daughters. He was 33 years old.

Flag Line: 3:00 PM – 3:30 PM The flag presentation will take place at Sumter Veterans Park. After the briefing we’ll walk over to the exact location, and we’ll stand a flag line for the duration of the flag presentation ceremony, scheduled to begin at 3:00 PM and lasting approximately 20-30 minutes.Honor and Remember kindly requests everyone wear a facemask or suitable face covering.
COVID-19: For PGR missions during the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19), we will abide by all rules and regulations set by the CDC and the State of South Carolina Department of Veterans’ Affairs. Each attendee is responsible for bringing a personal face-covering. It does not have to be an actual mask; any suitable face covering will be sufficient, as we will be setting an example that “We are observing all CDC recommendations regarding COVID-19.” In keeping with the requirements of the State of South Carolina Department of Veterans’ Affairs, PGR members will maintain at least a six-foot distance between each other during the briefing and flag line. We will observe any requirements of the family, and we will maintain a minimum separation of 10 feet from family and guests.
