ABOUT THE MISSION:
The Patriot Guard Riders have been invited to honor Mr. Whelan’s honorable military service. He entered the United States Air Force on 10 February 10 1988, ultimately becoming a Command Pilot flying the C-141 Starlifter in the 4th Airlift Squadron, and was an instructor pilot for Airdrop and Air Refueling. A veteran of Operation Desert Shield/Storm, he earned the Kuwait Liberation Medal, the Aerial Achievement Medal, and other ribbons and awards. Mr. Whelan was honorably discharged from active duty on 15 February 1996 at the rank of Captain. He then served three more years in the Air Force Reserves attaining the rank of Major. Mr. Whelan then achieved Captain in a second career, becoming a pilot flying for Southwest Airlines for 20 years. Additionally, this remarkable man trained service dogs for Got Your 6 Support Dogs (for those suffering from PTSD).

Following the 10:00 am funeral mass we will provide an escort to the hallowed grounds of Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery. Appointment is 11:30 a.m.
Remember, helmets required in Missouri.
