U.S. Army
WWII & Korea Veteran
Monday, May 9, 2016
It is with a heavy heart that I must inform you that America has lost another true American hero. The family of Daniel Jefferson Myers has requested Patriot Guard Riders to honor their hero with our presence at his funeral and to escort him to his final roll call. Mr. Myers was 90 years old and was previously the owner of Myers Harley Davidson until he sold it in 1998 and it became the Montgomery Harley Davidson.
In addition to his heroic service in WWII and Korea, as a young man he raced motorcycles and officiated AMA sanctioned races. He was a charter member of the Montgomery Motorcycle Club which was involved in many service projects in the ’50s and ’60s, including fundraisers for March of Dimes and the George Lindsey benefit Golf Tournaments for Special Olympics. He was also a charter member of the Montgomery HOG Chapter. Mr. Myers was awarded an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Montevallo for his work establishing the nation’s first motorcycle safety courses and degree program, which led to the development of the current ABATE courses.
PGR will stand a flag line on honor of Mr. Myers from 12:30-2:00 PM on Monday, May 9, 2016 at the University Church of Christ, 5315 Atlanta Hwy. After the service PGR will provide an honor escort for Mr. Myers and his family and friends to the Greenwood Cemetery, 900 Lincoln Rd., Montgomery where military honors will be rendered. This will be a LEO escorted procession.
