Honor Mission
Dana W. Browning, Retired
Jacksonville, Arkansas – 03-03-21

Dana W. Browning (88), was born in Sarah Ann, WV. He joined the US Air Force in August 1950, and took a leave of absence to attend the University of Texas. After graduation he re-joined the AF, retiring as a SMSgt on 1 Dec 73. His last several years were as a Leadership School Instructor. Assignments included stops in Texas, Kansas, Maine, New York and Puerto Rico. During the course of his career he received the AF Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Small Arms Expert Marksman, AF Leadership School w/3 OLC, AF Good Conduct Medal w/1 OLC, and NCO Academy Ribbon. After retiring from active duty, he continued on as an ROTC instructor at Jacksonville HS, wearing his uniform every day for another 21 years. “Sarge” became a mentor for many students and they all became very important to him, some friends to this day. His love of country and his patriotism never wavered. In his off time he enjoyed reading, especially history. He liked to hike while taking in the solitude of nature. He took road “camping” trips with his wife in their motor home. His love of our country was surpassed only by the love for his family and ROTC students. Mr. Browning is survived by his wife, 2 children, five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and 2 siblings.
