Ladies and Gentlemen of the Patriot Guard Riders, we have been requested to stand for John Thomas Turner, age 73. John lived a life dedicated to the service of others and protection of the rights he so believed in.
He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1960 and after his active duty commitment remained in the Reserve and finally retired as a Command Sergeant Major (E9) in March 1994. John was awarded the Army Commendation Medal w/Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Achievement Medal w/Oak Leaf Cluster, Good Conduct Medal w/Devices, Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal w/Device, National Defense Service Medal w/Oak Leaf Cluster, Vietnam Service Medal w/ 2 Bronze Stars, Army Service Ribbon, and Army Overseas Ribbon.
He joined the Los Angeles Police Department in 1972 and later transferred to the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office. John worked his way up to homicide detective and was the lead investigator for one of Oregon’s most notorious serial killers.
