Patriot Guard Riders,
I want to thank you for honoring my Soldier, PFC Courtney Wilma Shields. From our Unit, 229th Signal Company, we truly appreciate what you do and your desire to honor our Soldier, Battle Buddy and Friend.
PFC Shields was a true Patriot and a Soldier to be emulated. She was kind, considerate, loving and beyond professional. It is with Sadness that I will not be there, yet I feel confident that you will ensure the Soldiers family receives the respect and honor that they deserve. Their daughter will always be remembered. She will never be forgotten.
Sincerely,
1SG Smith, Jason R.

It is with the utmost respect that I offer my condolences to the family of a true American Hero. Courtney, may you forever rest in the knowledge that your duty was well done and you have the gratitude of an entire nation for your sacrifice and your service. I know that you will now be in the company of your fellow veterans who have gone before you and who will welcome you at Heaven’s Gate upon your arrival. Stand down now and know that we will carry on your legacy of freedom for all our citizens. To your family and friends, I ask that God comfort them now in their time of despair and remain with them as they adjust to their loss.
