Arlington, VA
Fri Sep 2nd, 2016
Fellow Patriots,
It is with great sadness that I announce the passing of another of Our Patriots and a Member of the Greatest Generation, COL John R. Lauderdale. The family of COL Lauderdale has requested our presence at his service on Friday, September 2nd, in Arlington, VA and it is with Great Honor that we will Stand for him as he has stood for us!
Mr Lauderdale was attending Texas A&M in 1944 when he was drafted, to defend his country during WWII, where he served in the Pacific Theater. After serving in the Pacific, he returned to Texas A&M and graduated in 1949. Upon graduation, he worked as an engineer before returning to the US Army. COL Lauderdale is a veteran of WWII, Korea and Vietnam, and served with distinction in assignments around the world, culminating with his assignment to the Office of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Armed Forces. He was described by those who served with him as a gentleman soldier of the highest character and integrity with a reputation for excellence in every endeavor. COL Lauderdale retired from the US Army in 1981 with over 25 years of service. He was a Master Parachutist and earned the Defense Superior Service Medal, four Legion of Merit Awards and numerous other medals and awards.
I ask you to join me in standing for this great American hero as he once stood for us. This will be an escort and flag line mission.

SPECIAL NOTE: Safety is of our utmost priority. Every effort possible in planning and executing the PGR MISSION Statement in a manner that minimizes the inherit dangers of riding a motorcycle, including riding in groups of all sizes and any situation. While the PGR and its riders have a remarkable safety record in the execution of our missions, infrequently members have been injured in unforeseen accidents. In an effort to mitigate the risk of preventable accidents, all attendees who wish to ride in a Patriot Guard motorcycle escort or ride are asked to attend the pre-mission briefing. It will include a safety briefing and any unique ride information known to our RC that may be specific to the mission. Member safety and well- being is always a principal ongoing concern. Our RC’s are asked to stand down from any mission that cannot be accomplished in relative safety or unreasonable risk. This includes both rides and flag lines in inclement weather and conditions. It remains each individual PGR member’s responsibility to ride within their own comfort zone and be cognizant of their surroundings and skill limitations as well as any physical needs or limitations. If the ride and/or mission conditions present challenges beyond your skill, comfort, or needs you are expected to exercise good judgment in foregoing any planned participation.
