McHugh\, 46\, of Newark\, New\nJersey died May 18 in Afghanistan of wounds suffered when enemy forces\nused a vehicle borne improvised explosive device and struck his convoy. \nMcHugh was killed while serving as Chief of Operations Group A with the\nBattle Command Training Program (BCTP). McHugh was on a NATO key leader\ntraining mission in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. \nMcHugh graduated from United States Military Academy in 1986. He also\ngraduated from American Public University in West Virginia and the U.S.\nArmy War College. \nHe served in a variety of command and staff positions as a Platoon\nLeader\, Regimental Aviation Officer\, Flight Operations Officer\, Company\nCommander\, Battalion Executive Officer and Battalion Commander.  He also\nserved as a doctrine writer and a Combat Training Center Observer\nControl. \nHe is survived by his wife\, five children and one granddaughter. \nThe family requests media members honor their request for privacy\, and\nthey are currently not granting interviews.
