The family of George Franklin McGregor, age 95, has requested the Patriot Guard stand for him as he once stood for us..
George attended Pontiac Schools where, in his senior year, he was inducted into the National Honor Society. George also attained Eagle Scout level in the Boy Scouts. He entered Michigan State College in 1938 and was inducted into the Phi Kappa Tau fraternity, which he served as treasurer for two years.
June 1942 was a busy period. On the first he was commissioned as Second Lieutenant, Field Artillery from Advanced ROTC. On the 13th, he entered Extended Active Duty in the US Army. In August of 1942, he married his college sweetheart, Marian E. Knight, in the Old Post Chapel at Fort Sill.
He served on active duty nearly four years and saw combat duty in the European Theater of Operations. Following discharge from active duty, McGregor remained in the Army Reserve and served for a total of 33 years, the last five of which were in the rank of Colonel.
