Clinton Dale Poley, Veteran
USA – Vietnam
Geneva, Iowa – 04-29-20
ABOUT THE MISSION:
The family of Clinton Dale Poley has asked the Patriot Guard to show honor and respect for Clinton. He served in the US Army/ Vietnam and was a machine gunner with the 2nd Platoon, Charlie Company, 1st Battalion, 7th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Air Cavalry Division. He was a member of the battalion commanded by LTC Harold Moore that landed at LZ X-Ray in November 1965. (“We Were Soldiers”) He was seriously wounded and was evacuated to Fitzsimmons Army Hospital in Denver, Co. and later honorably discharged in early part of 1966. He was awarded the Purple Heart for his heroic actions. Clinton became a recluse after the war, never married and stayed on his farm. He wrote- “I fought for this country and now I own and farm 120 acres of my country”. Clinton has no family close to say goodbye to him. (His only living relation is a sister who is mentally handicapped in a nursing home). So to the PGR members I ask you to be his family for this day and attend a short graveside service tomorrow at 1:00 PM. We will do a flag line with social distancing requirements in place. Please let Clifford’s sacrifice not go unnoticed or unappreciated.
