SUMMARY:Claude J.Toney Jr\, 92\, USMC
DESCRIPTION:Claude J.Toney Jr\, 92\nUSMC WWII Veteran\nSpartanburg\, SC\n6 Jun 2016\n\n\n\nOnce again we have been called upon to honor the service of a World War II veteran. Claude J Toney Jr. passed away earlier this month. His family has asked the Patriot Guard Riders to be present at a memorial service honoring his service and his life. He was 92 years old. \nImmediately after graduation from high school\, he enlisted in the Marine Corps. He proudly served from 1942 until being discharged in 1945. PFC Toney served in a place called Guadalcanal. This is where the bug infested\, malaria ridden steaming hot jungle created as many casualties as the enemy’s bullets. Then they began island hopping up through the Marshall Islands\, Philippine Sea\, on to Guam\, and finally ending on Saipan. \nPFC Toney’s job as a communication specialist not only required him to establish and maintain communication systems. Many times he had to work closely with the “code talkers” making him a “high value” target. He was lucky\, he survived. \nLike so many others after the war\, PFC Toney came home\, got a job\, married\, and raised a family. But now he’s gone. Please join me as we remember and honor his service. \nMission Details: Monday\, June 6\, 2016 \nStaging:\nDuncan Park (Veterans Pointe)\n1000 Duncan Park Dr\nSpartanburg\,SC 29302\n(Veterans Pointe is off Union St) \nMap: https://goo.gl/maps/3ci1jfuiiwK2 \nAssemble: 10:15 am \nBriefing: 10:30 am \nFlag line: 10:45 am \nThis is a flag line only\, no escort mission. (Caution: may have to park on grass). \nTom Comshaw\nRCIC\n864-472-4236\ntomcomshaw@yahoo.com
