Charles served in the US Navy on the USS Bon Homme Richard (CV-31) with VF-191 from 10 July 1958 to 10 September 1962 repairing F-11 & F8U aircraft. He was Honorably discharged as an Aviation Structural Mechanic 2nd Class (E5). Charles earned a Good Conduct Medal.
