ABOUT THE MISSION:
The family of USN ET1 Charles Lawrence Hesemann has honored the Patriot Guard Riders with a request for an escort from the Walnut Lawn Funeral Home to our hero’s final resting place at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Springfield MO, and stand a flag line where full military honors will be rendered. Hero Hesemann was born December 11, 1935 in Winfield, Kansas and passed on Dec 17, 2019 in Springfield. He served proudly and honorably in the US Navy for 16 years in submarine service with 2 years sea duty, and at the Great Lakes Naval Training Center. He entered the Navy in 1953, and excepting a two year break, served until 1971. He served on the USS Basham as Engineman Petty Officer 3rd Class, the USS Stonewall Jackson as a Machinists Mate Petty Officer 3rd Class, then was discharged from the GLNTC as an Electronics Technician Petty Officer 1st Class (E6). He was awarded the China Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal with one Bronze Star, and the Navy Good Conduct Medal (2). Following his service to his country, he worked over 20 years for the State of Illinois. Hero Hesemann loved woodworking and made many keepsakes for friends and family. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, 2 sons, a daughter, 3 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
