Augusta, Georgia – 02-24-21

The Patriot Guard Riders have the distinct privilege of standing for US Army retiree Sergeant Major Charles Gerald “Jerry” Baker as he stood for us in the past. Jerry, a native of Pitt County, North Carolina was drafted into the United States Army at the age of 19. During his military career, SGM Baker served in Thailand during the Vietnam War, 3 tours in Korea, and 2 tours in Germany, as well as numerous duty stations stateside. Following retirement after 24 years of active duty service, Jerry began another 20-year career with Civil Service at Fort Gordon, GA working in the Office Chief of Signal where he was instrumental in the Signal Corps implementation of the downsizing of the Army in the mid to late 1980s. Jerry was again in the forefront of the restructuring of the Signal Corps in preparation for the roll-out of Mobile Subscriber Equipment (MSE) modernizing the way the Army communicated worldwide.
