WWII Veteran Charles G. “Chuck” Wetzel, Jr., 88, United States Army
The family of WWII Veteran Charles G. “Chuck” Wetzel Jr, 88, has requested and invited the PGR to participate in his funeral service on Saturday, June 29, 2013, at St Mary’s Cathedral, 112 S. Cedar St, Grand Island,. The PGR will stand a Flag Line prior to the 10:00am service and following the service during the Military Honors presentation at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Chuck was drafted by the New York Giants as a Shortstop. His father insisted he graduate so he didn’t let him sign a contract. He graduated in 1943 and began serving his country in the U.S. Army on September 7, 1943, serving in the Artillery Division, in France and Germany until his honorable discharge on February 5, 1946. He was a member of the American Legion and the V.F.W.
