Charles Francis Ditto, Retired

Charles Francis Ditto is a United States Navy Veteran, Retired. He attended OCS (Officer Candidate School) beginning in March 1966 and entered active duty on July 22, 1966. He had 8 yrs., 7 mo. of Sea Service, including service in Vietnam. His Primary Specialty was Unrestricted Line Officer; qualified in surface warfare.

Chuck’s Final Duty Station was as Commander of the Navy & Marine Corps Reserve Center. On Feb 1, 1991, having attained the rank of Captain, He was honorably discharged, having served a total of 24 yrs., 6 mo., and 11 days.

Chuck received Military Education in following: Surface Warfare School for XO, Surface Warfare Officer Department Head, Coordinated Anti-Submarine Warfare, A/S Air Control, Instructor Basic, Combat Information Center Watch Officer, Anti-Submarine Warfare Officer.

For his service to our country, he was awarded the following: Republic of Vietnam Armed Forces Meritorious Unit Citation; Gallantry Cross Medal w/ Palm; Navy Achievement Medal V; Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal w/device; Vietnam Service Medal; National Defense Service Medal; Naval Reserve Sea Service Ribbon; Navy Commendation Medal; Meritorious Service Medal; Armed Forces Reserve Medal w/Hour Glass; Combat Action Ribbon; Meritorious Service Medal w/Gold Star.

During his time in Vietnam he was repeatedly exposed to Agent Orange. Chuck ultimately succumbed to Combat-Related illnesses suffered as a result of his exposure to Agent Orange.
