ABOUT THE MISSION:

The family of SMSgt Charles F. Matthews, 62, has requested the Patriot Guard Riders’ presence as they show their final respects and lay their loved one to rest. SMSgt Matthews faithfully served his country in the U.S. Air Force for 24 years, (11 years were served overseas) while performing duties in the Security Forces and as a First Sergeant. Upon completion of his service, SMSgt Matthews received an Honorable Discharge and during his time in service, he received a Meritorious Service Medal w/3 OLC, Joint Service Commendation Medal, AF Commendations Medal, AF Achievement Medal w/1 Silver Leaf Cluster, Joint Meritorious Unit Award, AF Outstanding Unit Award w/ Valor Device w/1 Silver Oak Leaf Cluster and 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, AF Good Conduct Medal w/1 Silver Oak Leaf Cluster and 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, National Defense Service Medal w/ 1 Bronze Star, Kosovo Campaign Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, AF Overseas Short Tour Ribbon, AF Overseas Long Tour Ribbon w/2 Oak Leaf Clusters, AF Longevity Service Award Ribbon w/1 Silver Oak Leaf Cluster, NCO Professional Military Education Graduation Ribbon w/ 1 Oak Leaf Cluster and a Small Arms Expert Ribbon. Additional awards were achieved but access to that information is not available at this time.
SMSgt Matthews is a family member of FL PGR’s ASC Don Reeder in Tallahassee. Your presence and support in honoring this Hero and his family would be appreciated.
