USN , USAR – Korea
Macon, Missouri – 07-11-19

ABOUT THE MISSION:

The Family of Charles ‘Chuck’ Tabor, 87, of Callao, MO., has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to stand in honor and to escort their loved one to his final resting place.  Charles ‘Chuck’ Tabor and his brother spent 16 months in the Army Reserve Unit, located in Macon, the 5th Army Reserve, Company D, 409th Infantry Regiment prior to their stint in the U S Navy.  Charles ‘Chuck’ Tabor trained in San Diego, CA, enlisting on June 12, 1952. He served on USS-LSMR-409 in the Far East (Landing Ship Medium Rocket).  Although this ship was hit several times in two separate battles from off shore fire, she suffered no casualties, but several shipmates were wounded.  Coming under fire they still managed to silence three enemy guns, while supporting troops that were storming the beaches.  After Peace Treaty in July 1953, he was deployed on the USS Leroy Wilson-DE 414 to Japan, then to the Tachen Island off the coast of China to evacuate and destroy equipment before communists took control.  He achieved the rank of Gunners Mate 3rd Class and awarded the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Ribbon, United Nations Campaign Ribbon and the Korea Campaign Ribbon with two battle stars.

My wife and I wish to extend our condolences on your loss.

We stand with feet planted firmly on rich soil knowing what freedom is. Because of our veterans, I am free to honor God and country without persecution. Where there is injustice, I am free to fight. Where there is silence, I am free to speak. Where there is hate, I am free to love.

Your love one’s watch is over, may they rest peacefully in the arms of God.

My wife and I offer our deepest condolences to the family of an American Hero. His service and sacrifice to our country to preserve our freedom is not and will not be forgotten. I wish him Fair Winds and Following Seas. Your mission here is completed. Rest in peace, we have the watch!

Sailors pray,
for fair winds and a following sea
The smell of salt in the air,
the feel of their skin as it’s touched by the spray
An albatross soaring above,
dolphins in the ship’s wake at play
To witness a work of art that only God can create,
the sunset at the end of day
At night a million stars in the sky,
safe anchorage in an islands lee
When the time comes to die as for all it must,
to awake in Sailors Heaven where nothing ever rusts
And always there would be,
fair winds and a following sea
