About the Mission:
Procession, Interment Service

Enlisted in August 1941
Assigned to the 8th Marine Regiment, part of the 2nd Marine Brigade was the first contingent of troops to leave the U.S. Following Pearl Harbor, fourteen days later arrived at Pago Pago to reinforce a Marine artillery battalion.
February 1944 participated in the invasion of the Marshall Islands.
June 15th 1944 was in the first wave of Marines to land on Blue Beach to begin the invasion of Saipan.
Awarded the Purple Heart.

Mr. Matthews wrote a detailed account of the battle on July 8th, 1944 where his platoon leader was killed, that and many other stories.

Special Instructions:

Riders will stage at the funeral home and position as directed for the procession. Riders must participate in the mandatory safety briefing prior to the procession. The cemetery is less than nine miles away. LEO will likely be there to escort us out of the town of Hubbard. Upon arrival at the cemetery, riders shall dismount and quickly move to the flag line to stand for the interment service. Mrs. Matthews requested “the bigger the better, he deserves it” when asking me how many PGR might attend. Riders not participating in the procession shall follow instructions for part two.

Flags Will NOT Be Provided, Please Bring Your Own.
If you have large bike flags, please bring them.
Water WILL NOT be provided, please bring your own.

Special Instructions:

PGR not participating in the procession will meet at the cemetery, set up flags and prepare to stand tall and silent as friends and family arrive and render honors as the procession arrives. Full military honors have been requested. At the conclusion of the service and at the direction of the Ride Captain, riders will carry the flags to the support vehicle to furl them and put them away. Riders will then be debriefed and dismissed.
