CPL Swearengin served in the United States Marine Corps from Feb 1943 to Nov 1945. During his service he saw action on Kwajalein Atoll\, Marshall Islands 1 – 4 FEB 1944. Guam\, Marianas Islands\, 21 Jul – 10 Aug 1944 and Okinawa\, Ryukyu Islands 1 Apr – 21 Jun 1945.
