It was another hot summer day. In spite of the heat 9 riders stepped up to honor USN Veteran Bill McMurtrie. We had several riders accompany our hero from the funeral home to the church prior to briefing.
Following briefing we took a short ride to Matoaka Baptist Church. Flags were previously staked and riders also held flags and stood a flagline. After service started flags were stowed away.
After service at the church, a respect line was formed as our hero was transferred to the coach.
Riders accompanied our hero along with family and friends to Ramona Cemetery for a graveside service.
A respect line was formed at the cemetery as our hero was transferred to the gravesite. Riders stood by flags previously placed. Following a message and prayer from the pastor, riders prepared to fold the flag as Taps was played. Flag was folded and presented to the widow. PGR plaque and invocation letter were read and presented to the family. Service was concluded and flags were stowed away.
Thank you to the McMurtrie family for inviting us to take part in honoring their hero. Also thanks to Washington County Sheriff’s Department and Ramona Police Department for getting us to the cemetery safely.
Thank you Bill McMurtrie for your service to our country.
Respectfully submitted:
Stan Wilson
