Honor Mission
Barry Wayne Marple, Retired
USN – Vietnam, GW/ODS
Norfolk, Virginia – 05-18-19

ABOUT THE MISSION:

AD1 Barry Wayne Marple was born in April, 1942 in East Brunsqick, NJ. He started his Armed Forces career in the USAF from 1961-1965, then joined the US Navy in 1967 as an AD (Aviation Mechanic). His duty stations and squadrons were diversified, as is the case in the Navy, but a couple that stand out are when he was aboard the USS Shangrila, on station in Vietnam, and his journey through AMCM (Airborne Mine Counter Measures), including squadrons HM12 and HM14, both located in Norfolk, Va, but had detachments frequently in all parts of the world. Some would say the best contribution anyone can give is to train others to carry on after you’re gone, and Barry fit very well into that category. He would say his best contribution was the formation of AMCM Reunions. For without his efforts, it would not exist. For that contribution, there are hundreds of his shipmates that are eternally grateful. His legacy and name are forever memorialized by our reunions. Barry made a difference!
