During Mike’s career, he earned the following awards and commendations: National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal (6 awards), Meritorious Unit Commendation (4 awards), Sea Service Ribbon (4 awards), Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal/Navy Achievement Medal (2nd award), and the Battle “E” Award.
M/Chief Burn joined the Patriot Guard Riders in October of 2006. During his time with us, he attended hundreds of missions in Florida, Georgia and other states as he traveled with his wife, Donna.
M/Chief Burn (Mike) was appointed at an Assistant State Captain in 2012. During his tenure as ASC he attended missions almost daily, if required, and mentored several new ride captains, and eventually, his replacement.
He served in that capacity until 2016 when he and Donna decided to take a trip, with their camper across the U.S. and the Trans Alaskan Highway to Alaska.
It was on this journey that Mike suddenly left us, in the Yukon Territory of Canada.
