Mission Narrative:
Mr. Barrett served in the US Army from 1942-1947, and was assigned as a Platoon Sergeant to Company C, 411th Infantry Regiment, 103rd Infantry Division. Mr. Barrett received the Purple Heart for injuries occurring in France during the Central Europe Campaign. He was shot in the leg, fracturing his femur by German machine gun fire. He and 2 others were on a scouting mission when they came under attack. He managed to roll into a culvert for protection, with continuous gun fire all around him by German forces. When the medic reached him, Mr. Barrett tried to convince the medic to stay down. But the medic refused and the moment he stood up, was shot in the head and fell right on top of him. Mr. Barrett had no choice but to use the medic as cover until Air Force troops dropped bombs to secure the area.
Mr. Barrett was Honorably Discharged on 10 September 1947 with the rank of Corporal. For his Service to our Nation, he was awarded:
Purple Heart Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal w/Bronze Battle Star, WW-II Victory Medal, Expert Infantryman’s Badge, Combat Infantryman’s Badge.
Please do whatever you’re able to help Honor the WW-II Service of Mr. Barrett, and to support his loving family.
Please arrive on time with a clean 3×5 American Flag, or a US Army flag. Dress for the weather, bring a beverage for hydration, and ensure your bike flags are properly placed and securely attached.
