ABOUT THE MISSION:
August “Auggie” Lyle Hawes, Jr. is a United States Army Veteran. Auggie was inducted on Oct. 6, 1966. Auggie served 6 years as a Communications Center Specialist, including 1 yr., 5 mo., and 19 days in Vietnam. Auggie’s last duty assignment was with the 1st Signal Battalion, 101st Airborne Division. On May 10, 1969, Auggie was transferred to the United States Army Reserve having attained the rank of SP4. On Oct. 5, 1972, having completed his term of service, Auggie was honorably discharged. Auggie was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Bronze Star, Purple Heart for his service to our country. Auggie has no living relatives. The Patriot Guard Riders will stand as his family.
