Arthur served in the US Army from 4 February 1964 to 11 October 1965 when he was medically retired at the rank of Private 1st Class (Promotable) (E-3). He was a 72C Telephone Switchboard Operator with the 999th Signal Company (Support) on Okinawa. He earned the Marksman Badge (Rifle).
