Alvin Curtis Murray lll\, 74\, was born 6 Dec. 1939\, Passed away 11 June 2019 in his home with family by his side. Lt. Col. Murray served 22 years in the USMC and the family has requested that the Patriot Guard honor him at his service and on his final mission. Lt.Col. Murray entered the USMC 4 April 1970\, served during the Vietnam war as a Huey helicopter pilot\, while earning two Distinguished Flying Cross awards and two Air Medals For Heroism and Extraordinary Achievement in aerial flight as well as Bronze Star. Col. Murray also served from coast to coast flying the OV-10 Airplane\, including serving at the Pentagon\, Headquarters Marine Reserve\, Headquarters Marine Corps and he reached the highlight of his career as Commanding Officer Of H & MS 36 Squadron in Okinawa Japan. Lt Col. Murray’s Awards include; .38 cal pistol Sharpshooter Badge\, Rifle Sharpshooter Badge; Air Medal w/ “4” device; Air Medal w/“60” device\, Naval Unit Commendation\, Meritorious Unit Commendation\, National Defense Service Medal\, Aviation Safety Award\, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon\, Republic Of Vietnam Gallantry Cross w/palm Unit Citation\, Republic Of Vietnam Meritorious Unit Commendation Civil Action Unit Citation\, Republic Of Vietnam Campaign Medal w/ “1960” device. Following his retirement he pursued a career in business. He is survived by his wife of 53 years\, 2 children\, 5 grand children\, 2 brothers and 1 sister.
