ABOUT THE MISSION:

The Veterans of Agawam have requested our presence at the Interment of their Hero. US Army Air Corp pilot, 1LT Allen R. Turner of Brookline. MA was the pilot of a C-109 aircraft on July 17, 1945 flying from India to China over what airman called “The Hump”, an area of the eastern Himalayas. The plane crashed in a remote area and after an extensive search all four people on the aircraft were declared dead. The wreckage was found by an independent investigator in 2007. 1LT Turner’s remains were eventually identified. He has been returned to his native Massachusetts after 73 years for burial. MA Governor Charlie Baker has ordered flags lowered to half-staff on Friday in honor of 1LT Allen R. Turner.
