ABOUT THE MISSION:

The Patriot Guard Riders have the honor of standing for US Navy Retired Senior Chief Petty Officer Albert Billy Smith as he once stood for us. SCPO Smith enlisted in the Navy at age 17-and retired in 1987 with over thirty years of dedicated service with no ship duty. Yet he served 13 six month deployments where he served in several capacities including seven deployments flying maritime surveillance and Fleet Support over the not so friendly skies of Vietnam and the Gulf of Tonkin. Billy was awarded the Air Medal (4 strike awards), Navy Achievement Medal, Navy Unit Commendation Medal (3 Awards) Air Force Outstanding Unit Medal along and many others.

Special Instructions:

Stage in the parking lot. After a short briefing, we will stand a flag line of honor from 10:00 am until the service starts at 11:00 am. After the service has concluded, we will render honors as the casket is placed in the hearse and will then form up for a Dekalb Motor Escort led Rolling Honor Guard to Ga. National Cemetery. Departure time from the funeral home is scheduled for 12:15 pm.
Coronavirus precaution disclosure:
Please bring a mask and wash hands often, be prepared to follow the guidelines from state and local officials as well as facility or cemetery guidelines to be outlined at the mission briefing.
A general record of attendees will be held by the ride captain for a period not to exceed 2 weeks in the case of the need for contact tracing. If you test positive for COVID-19 within 10 days of attending a mission please contact Ride Captain with that information, your name will NOT be disclosed.
Those who are sick, have a household member or other close contact who is sick should not attend and those who have a higher risk of severe illness should weigh the benefits of in-person attendance against the risk of exposure to a person with COVID-19, especially if recommendations for wearing masks and social distancing may be difficult to follow for themselves or others.

Stage at the flag pole and await the arrival of the escort. We will move to the assigned shelter when appropriate.
Flags and water will be provided by Doc Griffin.
